Interesting Screen Upgrade on a 560Z

#1 Post by AlphaKilo470 » Fri Mar 27, 2009 6:43 am

I found a pretty interesting page about upgrading the SVGA screen in a 560Z with the XGA screen out of a 150mhz ThinkPad 760E. While there really isn't any English on the page, there are a few pics. I'd like to see if this mods been done anywhere else and find some pics of that setup in use. Since I have a 760XD with pristine LCD but faulty motherboard, finding a 560Z and upgrading the screen might be a fun project. I'd just have to find a 560Z cheap enough to justify putting any time or money into a computer that couples a PII with EDO memory (running my 770ED alongside my 380Z; both of which have Windows 2000, demonstrates the benefits of PC-66 over EDO).

I've also once replaced a 380ED's screen with that of a discarded 560Z so the connectors for the actual panel itself inside the display case should match and I believe the TFT panel didn't change on the 380XD. However, I can't imagine an attempt upgrading a 380XD screen being any better than finding a 380Z (same case dimensions; bigger screen) unless you happened to already have one along with a defunct XGA-model 760.

The same website on which I found the page about upgrading the 560Z also has pictures of other mods being done to various ThinkPads.

Thanks for the insight, I might try this on my brothers 560Z if I can find a suitable 760 with XGA LCD panel.
