701C Butterfly, are there two CMOS batteries?

Older ThinkPads.. from the 600, the 7xx, the iSeries, 300, 500, the Transnote and, of course, the 701

701C Butterfly, are there two CMOS batteries?

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Mon Mar 30, 2009 5:30 pm

I just worked on a 701C butterfly.
I found that there are two CMOS batteries in there.
One, soldered onto the motherboard, and one removable battery, accessible from the outside (1.2V 30Mah).
The soldered one seems to hold the date/time, but it's not clear what the other is for.
Anyone?
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Looking at the HMM for the 701C, it appears that the "standby" battery is supposed to keep data alive while the main battery is removed and the system in the suspend mode (page 137). It also appears that this battery is rechargeable.
