Thanks for your reply, BovineMage. I will see for myself in a few days anyway, because I just bought a 701C. And if I don't like the keyboard, well, it will still be a great way to start a Thinkpad collection!

I'll report back to the thread when I have the time to try the SSD and the OS/2 install.

Personally, I find it extremely difficult to type on the 701c keyboard because the keys are so stiff. I've have two of these machines, and both behave the same way. I use a Model M at home and I like it a lot better. If you're looking for an nice typing machine, I would go for a 560X or 560Z. They're elegant, great to type on, and very lightweight.
Current Thinkpads: 600E, 600X, 701C, A31 (Flexview), R51 (Flexview), R60, T42P (Flexview), TR50E, T60 (Flexview), X61s (Ultralight), Z61m (Ti) Non-Thinkpad: Toshiba 100ct

The DX4 versions of the 701C like the one you are considering shipped with OS/2 Warp 3.0
They run OS/2 Warp 4.0 really well, perhaps even better than 3.0
