600X hangs when booting

#1 Post by cmarti » Sat Apr 18, 2009 5:54 pm

OK, this is the strangest thing... I have a 600X type 2645-4EU which has been upgraded to PIII 850mhz, 576MB of RAM and a 7K100 100GB.

It's been working perfectly for more than one year and all of the sudden when you turn it on it boots but very slowww..., believing it was the OS I format the H.D. and did a fresh install of Xp and guess what? same thing then I run some test on the H.D. and believing it was the drive I replace it with a Toshiba 80Gb w/4,200rpm.

Then I did a fresh install of linux mint 6 everything went smooth during the installation, but then when I turn it on it is the same slow. It can take forever to pass the OS boot screen.

Any ideas? :?

I did a mem86 ram test and it came good.

Thanks

I guess I will have to replace the motherboard then.

Seems like no one has encounter this problem before.

As with most such problems, I'd start by pulling out the "extras" from the system and see what happens. In the case of a 600X, if you have already verified the memory and the hard drive, then the next thing to try would be the MiniPCI modem. I've seen weird stuff happen when those cards go bad in both 600X and T2x systems.

I was gonna start my own thread but since there wasn't any respond to this I will just add to this.

I also have the same TP.
Running XP SP2
256MB(64 onboard + 64 + 128)

I also thought it was the HD since I tried to reinstall OS and it got stuck on "please wait windows is restarting"
I was able to install on different TP 1161. So the HD is OK

I then thought it was the memory, I took all the memory out just the 64mb onboard and still the same problem.

So, couldn't have been HD or the Memory, well maybe the onboard memory could be bad.

Until then, i'll also wait for comments and help.

Try pressing Fn-F2 when it seems to be locked up. Let us know what happens.

Just a thought & it may be a long shot, but probably worth a try.

Go to System>Hardware>Device Manager>Processors, then click on Properties, then Driver, then Driver Details.

If it says p3.sys (or similar) go to Update Driver & try the Intel.sys (or similar) driver. Re-Boot to effect the change.

Sorry, can't remember exactly what the .sys files are called.

Also, goto the Ibm website & download the Intel SpeedStep Applet for the 600X. When installed, you can change some settings from the TaskBar. Copy & Paste this link > http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... HLVUP.html for the Applet.

I have a pair of 600X's here that I can play with to try & help you further if I can.
