Thinkpad iSeries 1161-42u CMOS problem

#1 Post by thinkpad1161 » Sun Apr 26, 2009 1:46 pm

Have thinkpad 1161-42u. Was using power manager to recycle the battery and did not have it plugged in before it drained out now when I try to start, the battery is completely dead and will not take a charge. It is as if the BIOS is set to drain. Is there a way to get out of this messed up situation? Thanks. (ps. have tried removing both battery and CMOS battery but to no avail)

Welcome to the forum.
Try running the Battery Maximiser tool (In TP Configuration, top right, the yellow battery icon).
Maybe the cycle can be re-started.

Thanks, but the thinkpad won't even power up. I think the BIOS is set to permanent discharge and I don't know how to change this.

Have you tried booting without the main battery?
I also never heard of a BIOS setting to drain the battery.
Maybe the CMOS battery also happens to be dead? Your TP is old enough to have that problem...

Yes, I've tried booting without the battery, nothing. I've also removed the CMOS battery, let it out for a while, and then put it back in again, nothing. CMOS battery has been fine up to now. Main battery was getting weak though. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
