I need another 1999-2001 OS
I need another 1999-2001 OS
I am the kind of nerd who likes to play with operating systems. Are there any others like me here?
OS/2 allows 2 primary partitions for other OS's, besides its own logical drive.
In the first partition, I will probably install Windows ME & 2000 Pro. It's possible to triple boot DOS, Windows 9x, and NT. Can I do that with ME if the DOS compatibility patch is installed? I can also install BeOS under Windows and boot that from the desktop.
So I keep piling OS's into the first partition while the second just sits there. I am desperate for some suggestions! What other operating systems came out around 1999-2001 when my 770Z was still new, and the 600e was still up to date? Was there a new version of Xenix or DR CDOS at that time?
What is ReactOS?
I am trying to make up my so-called mind about Linux. Every time I get curious and start looking at it, I see chaotic mess of distros and run for my life. For now, I'd like to avoid it, so I'm looking for something else.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Try some BeOS. You can get the free personal edition here.

This situation is a perfect candidate for VMware on a modern PC. I have about a dozen guest machines, some legacy. Having 12 boot partitions doesn't make any sense here. ... JDH

FreeBSD 4 was released in early 2000. A single structured project so it's more organized than Linux (for better and for worse). Xenix was gone by then, the closest would have been SCO OpenServer.

If you need to keep your first partition for some old(er) OS, install Windows 2000 in the second partition.
Or change your setup as follows, based on an assumed 40GB hard disk size:
- C: first partition 10GB, Primary partition W95 or W98
- rest of HD 30GB: one Extended partition, subdivided in:
- D: second partition: logical partition 10GB ME
- E: third partition: logical partition 10GB W2K
- F: fourth partition: logical partition 10GB XP
If you like different partitions (or types of partitions), eat your heart out here:

You will have to install the OS2 Boot Manager to be able to use the additional primary partitions that OS2 allows you to allocate.
To have support for drives larger than 8 GB with OS2 Boot Manager you will need OS2 Warp 4 with fixpak 6 or OS2 Warp 3 with fixpak 35.
Installing W2K will destroy a Boot Manager installation. Fix it by re-installing Boot Manager.

Is that compatible with Xenix?
