600E - Won't boot or charge from AC adapter

#1 Post by sctyboy » Tue Feb 01, 2005 10:39 pm

I have spent quite a bit of time searching the forums on this topic, and have found a couple of threads, with no conclusive responses. That's why I'm starting my own thread. (first post, no less, just registered)

Anyways, here are my symptoms:
-600E will not run with just AC Adapter (no battery)
-600E will not charge a battery
-External Battery Charger will charge a battery (using same AC Adapter)
-600E will boot and run fine on battery

I have 2 batteries, it's the same for both of them.

From what I can gather it seems that I need to get a new "DC/DC subcard" can anyone confirm or dispute this solution?

If you're confirming it, are there any suggestions as to where to buy them from, or maybe even just what the FRU number is so I can find the right one on ebay (or similar).

Thanks,
Scott Silverman

Hello folks, I'd like to join the club of people with a dead 600 laptop. I called up IBM tech support today and the person tells me that the problem is the mainboard and that it'd be 500 bucks to repair. Well, I'm hoping that someone here will have a board I can buy or I find a decent deal on eBay.

Well, I bought and installed a new DC/DC subcard. No luck, still the same symptons as before. I guess I'll need a new system board to fix this. Quite a pain in my "insert body part here".
