Yes, that is possible
Re: Wireless on 600E running W2K
Hi SMA,
Thanks for the reply.
How do I get it to run when I cannot find any wireless connection in control panel?
Regards,
Derek.

Re: Wireless on 600E running W2K
Just follow the installation procedure that came with the PCMCIA card.
Re: Wireless on 600E running W2K
Did that and it does not work.
Should I try to re-install it?

Re: Wireless on 600E running W2K
Different cards will come with different software, so it is not possibly for me to know how your card is supposed to work.
I just knows that it is possibly to run a wireless PCMCIA card on a 600 with W2K OS.
Could it be as simple as you looking in the wrong place. Expecting something to show up in control panel.
Any new icon's on the desktop?
I cannot imaging that it will do any harm trying to re-install.

Most WiFi cards come with some software that runs in the background and lets you connect to wireless networks.
Look in the system tray (the area next to the clock) for some new icon.
Those tools usually also put an entry into the start menu.

Re: Wireless on 600E running W2K
Follow the instructions of the software. Some software will ask you to install the software and then install the card after installation of software. What brand and model is the card? so we may further assist you. Also, I believe WZC (wireless zero configuration) does not start automatically on W2K if I remember correctly.
Z61p (WUXGA)/2.16ghz/2gb/60gb, R51/1.8ghz/1gb/160gb, R40/1.5ghz/2gb/80gb, 600E/366mhz/416mb/20gb, Project R51 with SXGA+
Re: Wireless on 600E running W2K
I have followed the instructions to the letter and you are correct when you assume that WZC does not configure on W2K.
I have been trying a way to enable WZC but I cannot find one.
The information panel for the card is different than when it is installed in XP, as per my other laptop, and in this panel it is showing that I have a connection to the router but it will not connect to web. It just tells me the connection I am trying to make does not exist.
I am using a Belkin F5D6020 ver2 for UK market.
If I click on the icon on the system tray it tells me very little and does not enable me to connect WZC as on XP OS.
If you have any more ideas I am willing to try them all if it means I can get a connection.
If I could get the Ubuntu running on the 660E I would probably be able to connect up but that is another problem. I was hoping for a connection to enable me to download Ubuntu directly on to the thinkpad.
Regards,
Derek.

Re: Wireless on 600E running W2K
I see two possible problems:derke92 wrote:The information panel for the card is different than when it is installed in XP, as per my other laptop, and in this panel it is showing that I have a connection to the router but it will not connect to web. - Your wireless network is encrypted (as it should be) but the Win2k tool for your card is not set up (or does not support) that encryption.
Win2k does *not* support WPA/WPA2 on its own.
Either the tools from the WiFi card need to support WPA/WPA2 or you need a third party supplement. (McAfee (?) had such a wpa supplement that was free, but is not available anymore on their homepage. But you can find it elsewehere on the web.)
- Youe wireless card is set to use a static IP which does not correspond to the wireless network.
If so: Switch the card to use DHCP.
