Mandriva 2008 does not recognize wireless

TP 600X, Linux Mandriva 2008, TP-Link TL-WN321G USB wireless adapter
The wireless icon comes up, shows the IP and the Gateway addresses but Firefox obstinately refuses to recognize it.
The Linux forums have not been helpful.
Any ideas out there?
