Dead 600E

#1 Post by AlphaKilo470 » Thu Feb 03, 2005 1:04 pm

I just accquired a ThinkPad 600E (2645-4AU) today from a friend. The problem with the unit is that when I plug the computer into the wall with a known working AC adaptor, the charge light does not turn on and the computer refuses to do anything when I push the power switch. I've tried taking out the battery, but the computer still does not turn on. I'm guessing that the DC board and/or the main board is bad, am I correct? Also, if I am, would a ThinkPad 600X mainboard and DC board work in my computer?

Take a look in the Docking-Connector, some pins can be damaged

Have you tried the "reset" button...? It's next to the USB on the side.

Already tried that. Nothing happens.

As long as everything is properly seated it is most likely a bad system board. (The DC is integrated with the system board.)

You could get a 600X board. You will also need a 600X base assembly, cpu, fan & PC100 memory.

Yes Len, but it's hardly worth the effort to shoehorn a 600X MB into a 600E lower case, and you wind up not having access to the mini-PCI slot on the 600X MB.

You're better off finding a 600X lower unit on eBay Alex.
