SATA and SSD in ThinkPad 560X

I'm wanting to upgrade my ThinkPad 560X with a SATA SSD "Solid State Drive" or a EIDE SSD.
Does a SSD work as a normal HDD? Right now it has a 16GB CF "Compact Flash" IDE Adapter card in it and it runs fine but kinda slow, The hard Drive light at the top don't light up when the CF Drive is pluged in.

And also is there an adapter to switch IDE to SATA for laptops since SATA is taking over EIDE now and its more common to find in stores today than EIDE?

Instead of going from IDE to SATA, it would be easier (most IDE to SATA adapters are too big to fit) to go with a IDE to ZIF adapter and a ZIF SSD. This works well.

What you also need to bear in mind is the actual throughput speed of the IDE controller inside of 560x which is going to be very low by today's standards...

Good point. With those slow speeds, it might make sense stick to low end ZIF SSDs such as the SanDisk models used in the HP Mini or the Samsung/Intel ones in the Acer One. These pop up on Ebay once in a while as people upgrade their machines.
