Hi,

My Thinkpad 390X is running pretty well with Xp, however I was wondering if anyone has managed to get Ubuntu 9.04 (or any other version) running on a 390X...
I have this feeling if I lost the Trojan that is windows I may well see a rather serious speed increase.

Secondly, I Know newer Thinkpads with MiniPCI slots were given MiniPCI Wireless cards, does anyone know of a card that might work with the 390X (ie the Intel 2200 etc..)

Thanks in advance.

None of the models of the 390X came with internal WiFi. You'll need to put a PC-Card style network card in one of the two slots.

Someone else will have to answer the question about *nix.

either of the "desktop environments" XDE/Gnome will
slow you right down to XP speeds...can't recommend.

personally, I use ubuntu's "server edition," that includes
no graphics, and then add to it: fvwm window manager
for a few xterms and firefox.
