The MMC-2 CPU board doesn't have sockets on it, but the chips appear to be plugged right into the board and held down by the metal shields or heat sinks, which are riveted down. They do not appear to be soldered; Are they?

If not, what type of CPU package is used? Has anyone here ever replaced the CPU chip on an MMC-2 board?

Is there an MMC-2 adapter board with a socket, that a standard CPU can be plugged into? (There is a "slotket" adapter for slot-1 desktop CPU's, I am hoping for a notebook equivalent.)

On normal MMC modules, the CPU is soldered to the board and can only be changed if you have the equipment for soldering BGA2 chips (reflow soldering station).

There is a CPU adapter board for µPGA2-CPUs, but it is slightly bigger and there are some issues when using it e. g. mounting of the cooler and so on.
I own one of these and after some modification it works with a 1Ghz CPU in a Thinkpad 770x, but I would not recommend it because you need another CPU cooler and a smaller HDD (to have enough room to mount the cooler). There where some available on ebay this year, but do not expect to find one again.
