Since it has no network, no bootable CD and is a P1, is it worth the hassle ?
What use have you people gave to similar models since I can only think of a digital frame wich means taking it apart.

I bet I have 10, they have GREAT keyboards, they have PCMCIA so you can get them online and if you use remote desktop connection I've heard you can more or less use them as a thin client.
I used a P166 HP800 as a wireless access point/NAS router/firewall for years.
I'm not saying it's worth your time or trouble but if you're a geek the machines can still be used. (PS I'd use an XD or ED with an XGA screen) but if you end up with a 760 with Mwave just pull the hardware and replace it with EL or XL stuff (if you want sound) since it's junk.

The 760EL is ok (I have one), but as another poster said the XD or ED with 1024x768 are more usable for vintage work.
I pretty much stick to 486 and Pentium 1 in my collection to mess around with old apps on Win3/Win9x/Nt4 setups. They take less room then towers (which I also have), and I can use them outside in the shade on a sunny day (I try to snag working batteries when I can). Wireless cards can be found and even work under Win 3.
So unless you want to use older apps and operating systems, or just like fixing things, then maybe a newer machine is more suited to your needs?

I'm not planning on using it for real work, for that I have both a T61 and X200s and for my experiencies with operating systems I have a t42 and a 600E (my favorites).
I already have a 800x600 pentium class systems, a 380xd (needs fixing) and a 380ed, and haven't got around doing anything useful with them.
I've have a router running openwrt and I'm building a little server/player using a via C3 board from a laptop and also have an old fujitsu stylistic waiting to do something fun with.
My idea was an alarm/clock/mp3 player, but the lack of usb turns me off a little and you are saying the audio is crap anyway.
Is there anything special about it, besides the keyboard ?

If you have an EL or XL system you have ESS audio. ED and XD (and CD) systems had MWave which have no support (that I know of over Win98) they will even blue screen under WinME

With the MWAVE you have the video in port you can capture video with (not the best resolution).

Thanks you both, I'm starting taking notes to myself.
I wished the Thinkwiki had these subtleties, they are very important and the thinkpad family is complex with all the variations, sometimes in the same model (as in model name, not complete model).

On ebay a few weeks back when I purchased it. I collect old video editing systems so of course I had to find the cable.
"S-VIDEO RCA CABLE FOR IBM THINKPAD 770 VIDEO 85G1897
Works with IBM ThinkPad 760CD, 760ED, 760XD, 765D, 770ED, 770X, 770Z" , it was $8 shipped.

best part is I have either owned one of those laptops or still own several of each
(I used to own a used laptop store and I pretty much only sold thinkpads)

Must be nice having the store leftovers for parts.
Think I snagged a 380Z on ebay today, my collection is growing.
The older laptops were of a more convenient size to lug around, too many of the new ones are just HUGE and run too hot.
