What did IBM use to paint the old thinkpads with the rubber like feel (Thinkpad 760 series etc)?

How do you touch up that kind of paint?

I was looking a some rubberized black paint the other day at the store, thinking it might make a good touch-up paint for old Thinkpads. I thought I had picked up a can to try, but can't seem to locate it now. So, maybe I didn't buy any. Just thought about it. Either way, I have not tried it and would also like to know what others have used.

Somebody must have used something good by now. I googled and all I could find was one guy referencing chalkboard paint as a solution but nobody replied if it worked.

ReVox did use grey Nextel on their wonderful audiomachines. The look and feel is near by the thinkpad rubber... imho ...and also doesn't look well after years

Third post down has a "recipe" for the paint/finish. Haven't tried it myself.

Found this a while ago, and copied it on my HD.

1. Take the cover off the laptop.
2. Peel the rest of the paint off (gently with a scraper if need be).
3. Scuff the surface (rough steel wool or very fine sandpaper).
4. Clean thoroughly with a soft cloth.
5. Take the screw out (have to sometimes remove the C-clip)
6. Mask the tabs that weren't painted.
7. Spray with Tremclad Flat Black. I do two light coats.
8. Allow to dry thoroughly at least overnight. Replace the screw and install.

Works well, and the paint is available at most hardware outlets.

Tremclad is another name for Rustoleum I think.
