600e LCD Inverter Swap Out question?

My daughter's (4AU) is showing classic symptoms of needed inverter. So I bought one from Epay. Seller emailed a text file of his instructions for replacement. It calls for removal of the entire KB assemblyprior to touching the LCD...???

Is this reallly necessary? The pics of a backlight replacement linked here shows no KB removal...

Any advice on this point?

TIA, KC

Go get your hardware maintenance manual from IBM. It clearly lists the parts that must be removed before you can get to the inverter, and the keyboard assembly is on that list. It really is necessary.

The pictures you point to are of a partly-assembled machine and do not show disassembly.

It's so refreshing to have such "heart felt" help so close at hand. ;)

BTW, the repair is now successfully accomplished WITHOUT removing the Keyboard, hard drive, or optical drive.

In fact, removal of the 2 front bottom screws holding LCD bezel provides ample access to affect the replacement of the inverter.

Sorry I bothered you.

Boy it was nice to see I could get at the inverter by just removing 2 screws.

I would like to add (for others doing this) that I had to additionally:

1) slide the bezel a short distance toward the bottom of the LCD to release it

2) gently coax the bottom of the bezel from the bottom of the LCD as it was attached with adhesive between the left hinge and the dimmer bar.

Once done, I've got the bezel off and I'm ready to go.
