Hi Thinkpad Comrades !!

1. I have thinkpad 600. I have put 2X128 Mb modules in memory.When I boot it shows 128+128+32 = 288Mb but does not boot.
2. when I remove one RAM module from a particular slot it boots.
3. Anyone can help please.

Try putting in one then switching it with the other. Does it matter which module you use? Also try running memtest to see if you have a defective module.

Although I doubt its the problem because you're only using 128MB modules, try updating your BIOS if you haven't already done so.

I have seen this several times.
Your memory modules may have the wrong specifications, but as a such, there is nothing wrong with your memory modules and there is no bios update cure either.
You are just trying to exceed the limitations of a 600.

There may be ways of getting it to work with 288 MB of memory, but I have never tried hard enough to make it work.
For me, the max memory in these machine are 128+64+32 MB.

Using low density modules and disabling the builtin 32MB are the options that comes to mind if you want to experiment.
You could also try this forums search facility.

I think SMA is right (in his explanation and also in his recommendation to try the forum search function).

As SMA suggests, you might check the specs of the modules you have. For example, some folks have issues with certain modules working only in one particular slot (see u.mac's comment in 128 Memory for Thinkpad 600 and RobMayercik's comment in Max Processor upgrade in a TP600).

I have a 600 type 2645-51U running 416 MB as follows:

1-128MB PC66 in slot closest to CMOS bat
1-256MB PC100 in other slot (low density 16 chip)
plus 32MB on board.

As far as I know, the slot closest to the CMOS will only read 128MB max unless you were to find a pc66 256MB stick...I have never seen one of these.
