Trying to bring Z50 back from the dead.

Not much to do at work today so I tried to bring a Z50 2608-1AU back to life "looks brand new".

Replaced the 2 AA batteries and still would not power on.

Removed all screws to look under the keyboard and as I started to lift the keyboard it started to boot???

Entered my name and company and I was in.

I let the battery charge while playing solitaire “the only game”.

Could not shutdown so put it in standby and brought it home as I thought I had more memory to add.

Added 32M more opened the lid checked memory but there was still only 16M.

Put in standby again removed the memory I added and now I can not get it to turn on.

Power light comes on when I insert AC but will not boot when I lift lid or push power button.

Any ideas.

Thanks all.

Team up with forum-user Bookworm, who is also trying to get a Z50 going.

Hi,

Have you tried the little switch on the back?

The little switch on the back that looks like a ThinkPad power on switch is the battery eject. The lock/unlock switch next to it must be in the "locked" position for it to turn on.

The power on switch is a little hard to find, espesialy if you're still thinking in "ThinkPad mode". It's actualy a small flat round button on the upper right corner of the keyboard, near the hinge.

It sounds like yours may be working perfectly, you just need to find that button.

Where did you get the 32Mb upgrade? It might not be compatible.
