is your shift button stuck down?

however, press f1 hold it and turn the laptop on, hold the button untill you see the thinkpad patterned background, then release it. go to start sequence the icon with the 123 and the disk harddisk and so and select the cd first.
click ok or press enter and exit the setup. insert the cd and then it should boot from cd.

The cursor with a lock next to it is a password prompt, you'll need to enter the correct password. If you don't know the password, then you'll have to search the internet for this, but I believe there are two pins somewhere in the laptop that if short circuited, will reset the BIOS password.

perhaps your cd isn't recognized by the drive, try another one. pressed cds are known as good working, better than burned ones.

Go to "Test" in the Easy Setup and tell me, if the CD-ROM drive Icon is gray (inactive) or black, try to click it, if it beeps, it isn't detected.

The 760 and 765 series laptops don't have the ability to boot from the internal cd-rom, even with the latest BIOS.
