Welcome to the forum! I'd start by checking power. Try a different AC adapter and/or battery if possible. And check the DC jack.

my apologies, maybe i shouldve given more info....
It turns on, as in the fan cuts on and the lightsabove the keyboard cut on but nothing happens from there...
Of the 5 lights above the keyboard the one on the far left and the one on the far right light up and stay lit.
Thanks for the reply.

So, it powers up but nothing displays on the LCD? Have you tried connecting an external monitor?

Well...this doesn't look good. You may have a system board problem. Try removing the hard drive, optical drive, modem and RAM, anything that can be removed really. Then try to power on and see if you get the IBM splash or can boot into BIOS. If it does boot, start putting things back one at a time until it won't boot. That will identify your faulty component.

I tried removing everything, no good. I've read somewhere that these laptops just die for no reason.... why is that?

Oh, there is always a reason. These are over ten years old, for one thing. Solder joints break, motherboards crack, capacitors vent, heat builds up and components fail, etc., etc.
