Wireless dilemma

#1 Post by mnigro » Sun Dec 13, 2009 6:52 pm

Bought a new Netgear PCMCIA wireless-N card for my 600x. Before I install it, I’m wondering if any of the past history noted below indicates that there might be a problem with the machine that’s causing me to go through so many connection devices.

o My original netgear PCMCIA wireless-b card worked well for years before failing.

o I switched to a netgear wireless-g usb device. This worked briefly before failing.

o For a couple of years was using a belkin wireless-g usb device, but the odd thing about it was that it would only work in the original 600x usb-1 connection. Every time I booted up it it would tell me that the device could perform faster in a different connection, but no matter how many times I installed/re-installed the belkin device and my CompUSA usb-2 cardbus, I could never get the belkin to work in my usb-2. (Everything else that I use in the usb-2 works fine.)

Before I open the box on the new PCMCIA card, does it sound like I’ll still have wireless problems, or will going back to a PCMCIA be the fix that I need? (Running Windows –XP.)

Thanks.

Maybe there is a problem with the power supply in the PCMCIA slot? That might do some damage to the cards in the long run. Maybe you just bought cheap crapware :)

Thanks. Cheap stuff could be the issue, but the last two devices were USB, not PCMCIA. That's why I was trying see if something else might be affecting things.
