External WIFI Antenna for 240 or 240X?

#1 Post by slvrldy17 » Wed Dec 30, 2009 10:44 am

If memory serves I've seen references to an external WIFI antenna that plugs into the socket on the left side of the 240 series - but can't remember where I saw it or any sources for it. Anyone have a lead on where to find such if it is to be had? I've got a 240 type 2609-41U that needs an antenna to go with a new wireless card.

I can't find anything that says the 240 ever had wifi. Also the only port I am not sure of looks to be a K-Slot (for locking the laptop down to prevent theft). even the thinkwiki only lists a modem as a networking option. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:240

Sorry but looks like you are stuck with a pc card option, unless you feel like removing the modem and adding a mini pci wifi-card then running the cables into the lcd yourself (did that on an old Toshiba and it worked great).

Hello,

what some people have done is modifying the modem port so they can connect a wireless antenne to it.
I own a 240X myself, which I take with me on holidays to:

1. store digital images on (backup of pictures made with my digital camera)
2. connect to the internet (when possible) to read email etc
3. run movies (ripped from DVD's) for my children.

I have installed:

1. a 54Mb wireless miniPCI card (routed the antenna wires under the LCD lid)
2. 256Mb memory
3. 120Gb hard disk
4. 2x USB 2.0 ports (in PCMCIA slot)
5. Win 2000 SP4 installed

Some say displaying movies smoothly isn't possible on the 240X because the video adapter isn't powerful enough.
That isn't true. I use the VLC Media player. It runs perfectly alle movies I have, without any hickups.
Kind regards,

Erik
