On an i1400 series (2611-411), is an actual, complete shutdown possible? If so, how?

Mine goes to a screen advising me: "It is now safe to shut down your computer".

To shut down your computer completely, you should be able to simply click the power button after you see the message appear.

To shut down your computer automatically, and skip physically clicking the power button, you may need to fiddle with some settings.

Which version of Windows are you using?

According to Microsoft, the problem may be related to how APM or ACPI is configured for your i1400 machine. I don't have any experience with those machines, and so can't say for sure. See:
"It is Now Safe to Turn Off Your Computer" error message when you try to shut down your computer [microsoft.com]
