240 is very probably the smallest Thinkpad... my A31 15.1" is very probably one of the biggest!!

No need to speculate. The tabook, ltwbook and twbook have all the info:

X100e: 11.1" x 8.2" x 0.6-1.2"

15.0" A31: 13.0" x 10.7" x 1.8'1.9"

15.0" G41: 12.9" x 11.1" x 1.5-2.0"

W700ds: 16.1" x 12.2" x 2.1"

The 240 was never the smallest ThinkPad, only the smallest sold in the United States. The 220 and 230 were much smaller, and while it doesn't *say* "ThinkPad" on it, the PC110 is usualy considered a ThinkPad and is one of the smallest personal computers ever made.

Wasn't the Japanese only S series smaller than the 240? Plus it had the high gloss finish on it.

Not all of the S3x units had piano finish...

The one to properly answer this would be pianowizard, since he owned both...or possibly Bill (Morrow) himself...

George, thanks for remembering that! I always weigh my laptops but never measure their dimensions. And I never had a chance to make a direct size comparison between the S30 and the 240 series, because I didn't have both at the same time. But fortunately IBM's site has the dimensions of the S30:

Width: 257.0 mm (10.1 in)
Depth: 213.0 mm (8.4 in)
Height: 22.5 mm (0.89 in)

From the twbook, the 240 is 10.2" x 8.0" x 1.05". So, they are not too different. The S30 weighs a bit more though, mainly because its battery is bigger. The S30 I had weighed 3.07 lb, whereas all of the 240/240X/240Z I've had weigh around 2.92 to 2.96 lb with the 3-cell battery. But with the 6-cell batt, the 240 weighs 3.22 lb.

The S30 is a slightly more powerful and better equipped laptop than the 240Z. But I found the former quite ugly, and so I have owned my 240Z for much longer than I had that S30, which I sold after just several days. IMO, the S30 looks great only in photos!

Is the IdeaPad S10 smaller than the ThinkPad 240 and X100e?
Was thinking of getting a IdeaPad S10 or a new ThinkPad X100e for travel for my truck since I have no place to store my ThinkPad 380Z. I couldn't find a spot for it as its big and seeing if I could fit a netbook in my concel
