Good day to all,

I recently aquired my first Thinkpad last night and while I was checking out all the features and buttons and such, I pressed Fn+F12. Uh oh... so now it goes into hibernation (sort of). The problem is waking it up. I tryed pushing enter, space, trackpoint, Fn key- all to no avail. I was starting to panic now, really feeling like a noob. So I cycled the power switch, and it fired back up...into hibernation. Next step: hit the internet looking for help, and I ended up here. After a half hour, I went back to the Thinkpad and it was still hibernating, but when I went to pick it up, the bottom was very very hot, specifically around the memory bay. That didn't seem right to me, so I held the power switch off for 5 seconds, then removed the battery. After it cooled down I put the battery back in and she fired right up!

My questions are: what is the CORRECT way to wake up a hibernating 390X? And is it supposed to get super hot in hibernation mode?

thanks in advance!

When a machine enters hibernation mode it essential copies the current memory contents to the hard drive and then powers itself off (only using a very small amount of power) - to resume from hibernation you should just have to hit the power switch and it will turn back on and load the hibernation file from the hard drive back into memory to get you back to the state you were at before you entered hibernation. As the machine is essentially off it should not get hot and the system should switched off (so only the battery led if plugged into ac). If it is not going into the mode fully (flashing cursor, screen appears on etc) it may be worthwhile reinstalling the hibernation file - this varies depending on your operating system and you may need the hibernation utility from

thank you very much for the reply. The strange thing was when it when into the "pseudo hibernation" the power light was still on but the screen was blank and it sounded like the HD was still spinning. I do have the hibernation utility loaded, it checked out fine after I got the machine running again. I'm going to see if I have the current bios installed.
thanks again!!!
