I know the 770Z was the top of the line at its time....what i'm wondering is...is there any difference between the X and the Z if their both equipped with the 13.7" SXGA LCD????.....Are they basically the same units???...Any physical differences.....Not counting DEVA cards,drives....

Should be the same chipsets and stuff although the 770Z had a faster CPU (366 vs 300) and a bigger HDD (8.1 vs 14.1) but according to the info I have the screen that came with the 770Z was a 13.3" screen as apposed to a 13.7" screen in the 770X

Aside from the CPU speed (366 vs. 300) and bios there is no difference at all. They are essentially the same machine.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I heard that the CPU of TP770Z
can be upgradable to PIII but TP770X sometimes cannot. There may
be some kind of difference in the system board design which affects
only PIII operation.

If there is a difference it's an awfully obscure one. A look at the spec sheet shows no difference at all. We'll see about the above though, I plan on installing a PIII 500Mhz in my 770x next week.

Yeah, the difference must be very subtle, if any. But it is a definite fact that
several Japanese people, at least 5, popped in a PIII into their TP770X and
found that it didn't boot up at all or terribly unstable, no matter what they do.
Since TP770Z was not sold in Japan, some of them imported an old TP770Z
system board from the US and successfully made it work with a PIII.

An interesting fact is, all the people who claimed that a TP770X doesn't work
with PIII are Japanese. Therefore, the Japanese version of TP770X might be
something different from the US version, but I have no clue about that.
