TP 380E can't get past the 161/163 POST codes

#1 Post by tghlk » Fri Mar 12, 2010 8:04 am

Just got 3 of the machines, all in nice shape and they all do the same thing, which is POSTing a 161/163 error. I replaced the tiny battery and I still get the same codes. I've set the date and time correctly and even tried pressing and holding F1 at boot time to try to get into ez-setup to initialize the machine, but I don't have that option. Can't ignore the error either, because it just graphically refers you to the service manual. What's the trick to get the machine to recognize a new CMOS battery and boot normally?

Easy-Setup is entered by holding F1 when turning on, not at some point during the boot process.

pressing F1 and then powering on still does not goto ezsetup. All 4 units still goto the error codes and then date/time prompt. I guess it's a system board problem now. It's a shame too because they are nice clean units.

You need a good CMOS battery or you will have to fix the date/time setting each time you power up.
Are you sure you installed the correct battery type?

yup, it's a new battery, a cr1220 type. I recently revived a different 380E last year so I had to get a battery for that one which I am using for testing purposes. No matter what I try, it always complains about the 161/163 errors even though it seems to save the date and time from when I set it up on the last reboot.
