uses for working Thinkpad 570 ?
uses for working Thinkpad 570 ?
Unfortunately this unit does not have XGA LCD so it is capable of only 800x600 in Windows.
I know that some of the lightweight Linux distros run on it at 1024 x 768.
I put too much into this laptop, and I am considering selling it on eBay. But it seems such a waste since I won't get much for it.
So, I am looking for suggestions on what I can do with this TP570.

See with a machine like that there is still a lot you can do.
Your machine is good one, if old. So lets keep that in mind. For instance I have a P2 based Micron laptop that has roughly the same specs as the 570 except I have an XGA LCD.
What I did was a dual boot situation.
Partition 1 is Windows 98SE: For retro gaming and e-book reading. This OS will never see the internet.
Partition 2 Fedora 9. This partition is used for basic geekery, some scripting and maybe some light internet usage.
The machine itself is too old to be used on a daily basis but mine has 512MB of RAM meaning I can actually do stuff with it should I so decide to. I have a PCMCIA wireless card the works in Linux if I need a secondary internet box for quick look-up or to let friend check stuff out online when they are over.
The 570 is a good and usable machine but keeping in mind it's age. It is a double edged sword to me because its age allows me to run my old but still fun games, read e-books on a machine that doesn't have the distraction of the Internet at my beck and call and basically it helps me to relax. However because it can get on the Internet it is still mildly useful for a quick google search or something.
It is a toy to tinker with and to take a trip down memory lane. That being said it is also a Thinkpad and considering when it was released a pretty speedy little laptop when paired with the proper software.
If it were my Thinkpad I would keep it.
