TP600 CPU upgrade

#1 Post by Scott » Tue Mar 01, 2005 6:46 pm

I am new to this Forum. I was wondering if you could upgrade a TP600 Type 2645-51U with a 366Mhz CPU (p/n 38L2855). Are there any cooling or batteryissues to be aware of? Any help on this would be greatly appreceated.

Hello & welcome to the forum...

The 51U takes MMC1 CPUs.

38L2855 is an MMC2 (different socket).

Upgrading the CPU on that model will not have any significant impact on cooling / battery.

There are P2-300mhz and a few other CPUs that will fit into your laptop but nothing that will give you a major performance increase...

The 2645-51U can be upgraded to a PII 400MHz MMC1 processor IF you can find one for a reasonable price.

The 400MHz is the fastest MMC1 made by Intel but they are very rare and most times prohibitively expensive. IMHO you'd be better off selling your 600 on eBay and buying something newer. You can frequently find clean 600Xs for ~$300.

Len (Absolute Raleigh) is selling some nice off-lease T23s for ~$500!
