Memory error

While trying to install a program I had previously installed I had some problems... So, I installed it on another computer, made an emergency CD (it's Acronis True Image 8.0) and tried to set up the secuire zone from the EBD. Worked,

However I had some starts where it suggested I might have a ram problem (unable tin initalize Ram Disk 01:00) (Acronis EBD's look to be Linux)

I entered Setup and ran a test on th ememory.. I got the first Beep, Beep, and a second Beep, Beep, and there it hung. nothing worked but power off.

Swapping the expansion cards gave exactly the same results.

Any ideas? Boot up shows what is it, 292 Meg of good ram (Full blown 600E)

Go get memtest86: http://www.memtest86.com/

Remove all your extra memory and run the test.

Then add one piece and test again.

Remove that piece and add the other. Test again.

Then try them both in. Test again. You should have a pretty good idea by this time of what's wrong.

Will do, Thanks... However my concern is that the error, if any, is on the soldered in, not the plugged in memory. I did try swapping the two and the mem test stalled in the same place. However the computer is working, in fact I'm using it to post this so I'm not sure. Just the occasional flake


Kind of reminds me of the last time I had a bad ram chip

(That was on an 8088 no less, expansion board, socketed and easily replaced, I think I still have that 8088)

Well if it is your main RAM, you can get a new system board.

You can also disable the internal memory by hacking your BIOS.
