Won't power up when battery is in

#1 Post by beowulf177 » Fri Mar 04, 2005 9:39 pm

Hi all, I have a 1300i ( 1171-5wu ) that will not power up if the battery is in. If the unit is not plugged in it acts as if the battery is dead ( I have two batteries and they both read fine on the volt meter ). If the unit is plugged in the battery light flashes green. If you try to power up ( battery in and power cord plugged in ) it flashed the battery light green, the hard drive light flashes, and the light that looks like a lazy 'Z' in a circle flashes also. It seems to be stuck repeating a step in the very early stage of start up. No beep codes are issued. If you take out the battery it powers up with no problem. Same results with the new battery as with the old. Any ideas?

Thanks
Andy

If the problem persists with a known good battery, then you probably have an unseated and/or shot DC circuitry and/or a bad power cord. Try the batteries and power cord on someone elses i1300 if you can.

What kind of batteries are they?

Was the system board replaced? What's the FRU on the board?

Thanks for your intrest.

The batteries are both Li-ion, one is the original equipment the other is a after-market, but has the same specs and reads the same on a volt meter.

The system board is also the original. The only modification is the addition of some RAM, but that was a while ago.

Where would I find the FRU ?

Thanks
