AT interface on IBM thinkkpad 600

#1 Post by henpike » Tue Mar 08, 2005 2:14 pm

I was wondering if someone could steer my in the right direction here and clear something up. I am new to laptops so youll have to please bare with me. I have been looking into upgrading my hard drive for my thinkpad 600. I noticed that the AT interface says ATA-4 for my thinkpad. All the hard drives I have been loooking into are ATA 7 and the majority are ATA-6. I am asssuming now that I cannot use any of those is that correct ? I must use one that says ATA-4 ? I wasnt aware there were different sizes that fit different machines. I thought it was like a desktop where mostly all ATA drives are compatiable. Thanks again !

With the latest BIOS installed the 600 series of laptops can use any HD presently manufactured.

All ATA6 and ATA7 HDs are backwards compatible with the ATA4 standard.
