600e only working with 1 of 4 hard drives

#1 Post by mikey pizano » Thu Aug 19, 2010 10:06 am

My 600e will only work with 1 of my hard drives, and refuses to work with any of my other ones. The hard drives work fine in any other laptop though. I want to use a smaller one for this computer, and the only one it works with is an 80GB i had originally used with it when I got it, and have since passed to my A20m. I want to use a smaller 30gb to install Windows 98se or 2000, but anytime it tries to even format the drive, it fails.

I really don't know what to add, its confusing me to no end. I am trying a low level format on the drives now.

I just had the same kind of problem on a 600, 15GB and 30GB drives would not work correctly. The issue was they were showing up as 8GB (in the case of the 15GB model, LBA wasnt working) and Win2k installer would try to format it and fail. All I had to do was replace the CMOS battery (it was dead) and do a reset in the BIOS and all was well.

Yes I did notice they showed up as 8gb then showed 20gb available to make the partitions. I am currently running Windows 98SE setup. I will edit this post if it succeeds.
