CMOS for Series i 1171

#1 Post by slvrldy17 » Thu Aug 19, 2010 5:28 pm

I have an IBM series i 1171 laptop that needs a new CMOS battery - can anyone point me to the proper part number and procedure for replacing it?

Thanks,

Alice

Would this be for an i-series model 1300 (TYPE 1171)? If so, then this Hardware Maintenance Manual should be helpful:

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... 3p0894.pdf

Consult the first few pages of the manual to find your exact type (e.g., 1171-61M) and that will tell you which "Part" (I to V) to refer to. There appears to be two different types of CMOS batteries that were used; a regular "coin" battery and one which has wires and a tiny connector attached to the battery. The coin-type battery can probably be obtained at most drugstores or supermarkets (camera department usually) or Radio Shack. The one which has the wire/connector pre-soldered onto the battery will not be found in those places. Your best bet would be to buy one from eBay or other online resources. Each type of battery should have some identification marked on it. The coin battery seems to be a standard CR1220 (3V lithium); the other appears to have an IBM FRU (part number) of 02K6694.

This is exactly what I needed - Thank You! Next time my schedule permits I'll go ahead and replace the battery.

Thanks,

Alice
