No Post, no display on the start. Bad motherboard?
No Post, no display on the start. Bad motherboard?
I got a Thinkpad from an auction that powers on with a green light.
I could hear the hard disk spinning with the sound of magnetic needle heads moving but not the POST beep noise. The LCD is complete black as well.
I've connected the PC to the external monitor but nothing was displayed.
The CD tray eject botton was working. RAM was in place.
Lastly, it wouldn't turn off the power by pressing the switch for a few seconds.
Overall, the PC looks like new. There is hardly a used mark on it. So what could be wrong?
Is this the problem with the CMOS battery or worse yet, do I have a bad system board?

Remove the battery and the RAM. Plug the AC adapter in and power up. Do you hear any beeps? If not, the system board is bad. What model is this ..T42?

Do the standard trick: remove battery and AC adapter, then hold down the power button for 3 seconds. Repeat 9 more times.
Now hold down for 30 seconds. Attach AC adapter only, and see if she now boots.
Another thing to try: remove all RAM, wifi card, modem, CD, hard disk, battery. Try to boot.
If the mobo is still alive, you should hear 1-3-3-1 beeps. If not, new mobo in your future...

Thank you all folks.
I've tried everything you've told me to but nothing seem to work.
Actually the model is i-1410. Very old one indeed. I do have a T40p and I found you folks to be one of the expert in the area. The i series is so new, it still has the stickers on the palm area.
Is it worth a trouble to fix? How much will it fetch on ebay if it's in good working order?

With such an old CPU (probably a 366Mhz Celeron) and outdated specs, you probably couldn't give it away, except to a collector.
There must be oodles of those floating about, gathering dust.
