Does anyone know where I can find such a drawing ? Couldn't locate one on the IBM site. I have some chrome hook piece left out after reassembling it .
(Seems to work without it!)

Try the hardware maintenance manual for the 600 series. Usually at the very end of this pdf document, there is an exploded view of the entire thinkpad...inside and out.

It's just used as a spring to push the battery out when you use the battery release. It is not necessary for the operation of your laptop. It goes right beside the plastic release pin underneath the release switch. I could send you a picture of how it goes in if you would like.

Thanks to all . Excellent FAQ post- Apologies for not checking it out before.
The search function on the IBM site is not up to the standard of their products.
Cheers.

yea when you get better results pointing google at the site it's a bad sign...

about the only humongous sites I frequent that are more than 1/2 way searchable from the inside is Intel's or Apple's. Not counting vendors like Newegg et al.

The proof of the pathetic accessability of the site is the huge number of Ebay vendors of IBM maintainance documents on CDs.
