760EL no Video help please

#1 Post by disneyman » Wed Mar 16, 2005 10:01 am

Hello All
I'm still hoping to figure out the video on a 760EL. I had some other drive related problems that I have fixed...Thanks to some helpfull people here!
I have win95 running but can only use an external monitor. The FN+F3 combo will switch the monitor but it is just black on the lcd. I carefully disassembled and reassemlbed the connectors into the machine and the top two PCBs but still no LCD. Any ideas how to troubleshoot or what to try next? Is it possible for the vid board to be bad but still have external monitor work?
I don't know the history of this machine other than it's been apart before for sure...
Thanks in advance!!

Look at the display under a bright light. Do you see Windows?

If so it's the backlight. Most common couse is the flex cable. After that inverter or the backlight itself.

I doubt if a bad video card would work on an external monitor, but I suppose it might be possible.

Good luck.

Well I tried that once and couldn't see a thing... Now that Ive got Windows running when you toggle the monitor FN and F7 you can see the lcd get very slightly bright but only in a dark room with a flashlight. I can't see windows but it could be there just very very very faint.
Is there a way to test invertor or backlight??
