Proud Owner of a 240Z

#1 Post by Outatime1989 » Tue Jan 04, 2011 1:17 am

i just acquired a 240Z from Ebay today (Item #180601050694). I cant seem to find the max ram it can take and searching the lenovo site doesn't help since it tells me type 2609-81k doesn't exist. I would like to max out its specs as much as possible. It is a 600mhz model with Ethernet and an 8x6 LCD. I wasn't prepared for how solid these machines are or how small. I compared its sturdiness to a 570e and although they look similar the 240 is much more solid than the 570. i am very impressed by these little things and hope to bring out the max potential of mine.

I'm also a happy owner of a 240 (no Z) and was impressed like you by the quality, and how sturdy and sleek they are. They're really great nice machines. Enjoy yours! :thumbs-UP:

The maximum amount of RAM you can install is 256MB low-density PC100, but in order to do that you need to disable the onboard RAM. The i Series 1124 that I had is the 240Z's twin (and is even rarer than the 240Z), and the person who owned it before me mechanically destroyed the onboard RAM to disable it. But I think there is a software method to disable it as well -- try to do a keyword search for that method on this forum.

The 2609-81K was a Korean rather than Japanese model, and so I looked it up on Lenovo's Korea site and found the specs:

제품: ThinkPad 240Z 2609-81K [변경]
운영체제: 전체 [변경]

시스템 기본사양: PIII-600MHz, 64MB RAM, 10GB HDD, 10.4 SVGA TFT LCD, LT 56K Modem, Win 98 SE

I strongly recommend you to keep searching for a 240Z that has an XGA screen, i.e. 1024x768. IMO, it's the XGA resolution that separates the 240Z (and the i Series 1124) from the 240X and 240.
