365xd pcmcia wi-fi card
365xd pcmcia wi-fi card
I'm having trouble installing an NL-2511CD PLUS EXT2 mercury(e100) on a win98se 365xd.
I got it on ebay, and the seller listed the following link for driver and quick guide:
http://www.senao.com/English/Default.as ... =B23&CNT=1
I tried following the quick guide instructions.
I'm getting a window titled "WLANCFG" that says:
"There are no Wireless network adapters installed, so the configuration utility will quit."
Sometimes Windows detects the card; sometimes it doesn't.
If it detects it, it asks for the Windows CD - My CD-ROM doesn't work, so I copied the CD to the harddrive and typed in the path when it asked for the CD.
It couldn't find a dll. I found it in Windows/System and typed in the path. It copied some stuff.
The ebay seller suggested I get a working CD-ROM, I think.
Sometimes the network adapter doesn't show up in Device Manager.
If it does, it says the driver needs reinstalled. I tried, but I'm not sure how to do that.
I uninstalled/reinstalled DriverSetup802.exe (from the above link) a couple times.
I removed the card in safe mode a couple times.
I have a pcmcia 28.8k modem installed that works in both pcmcia slots.
I emailed Senao. Haven't heard from them except they gave me US contacts, which I emailed.
Can you help?
Thanks!

Re: 365xd pcmcia wi-fi card
I suspect that the card is a Cardbus card and is why it will not work in the 365XD's slot.

Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_Card to be able to understand the difference.

Re: 365xd pcmcia wi-fi card
Thanks for your reply.
It's not CardBus.
The seller said it's 16-bit, and it doesn't have the eight dimples on the business end.

What I would do at this point is update the BIOS to the latest revision if you haven't done so.
Also, is there any setting your BIOS about QuickStart? If so, disable it.
Otherwise, I'd get another card. I have bought used 802.11b PCMCIA on eBay before that worked with Windows 98SE.

Re: 365xd pcmcia wi-fi card
On a related topic, I have a Netgear MA401 PCMCIA 802.11b card. Even if I get it to work on my 380ED, old wireless hardwares may not support WPA. Since WEP is too easy to crack, the AP can be left open and privacy must rely on other protocols from upper layers. To keep a recent home DSL modem/router with default WPA2 settings, another AP (in open mode) and a VPN server are needed.
