CDROM CAN'T BOOT

Hi everybody,
I need your help, I was given a thinkpad 770 model 9548/300. I want to install the operating system and the labtop cannot boot on cdrom, it's can boot only on floppy.
Can someone tell me what to do for the machine to boot on CDROM.
my bios version is 09 / 17 / 99
