Transnote USB 2.0 PCMCIA/CardBus problem

Hi,

I know this has already been discussed a few times here, but no solutions were found...
So, I'm having a problem with my USB 2.0 PCMCIA card on my transnote : every time I plug it in, the computer freezes a few seconds later (it did the same thing with an old Netgear WLAN card, and both this two cards are working fine with my other laptop).
The Transnote freezes under Win2K, WinXP or even during the boot if the card is plugged in.
I've tried many things under the Device Manager : there are two PCMCIA slots displayed, so I tried disabling one of the two, but it didn't work better. I also tried a more generic driver than the one installed by default, but it didn't help either.

Any advice here ? Any more information than what has already been said in older threads ?
Any other idea to get USB 2.0 on the Transnote ? (the Mini-PCI slot is already used by a Wifi card)

Thanks in advance !

If you are talking about the short stubby card...........
I have at least 2 T30's that it will freeze in, and 2 T30's it will work fine in.

When I applied the SP2&3 updates seems to have made the difference. If the card was plugged in while doing the updates, they work. If they were unplugged, then added afterward, they don't work. Dont take that to the bank as its just an observation.

Go to this website, in the Files section, to get the latest BIOS: http://www.transnote.info/
It has lots of info on your machine.

Thanks for the answers.

The USB card isn't the problem because it works well on my Thinkpad T500, it only makes the Transnote freeze.
And I already have the latest BIOS, but the problem is still there :(

I have Joli OS installed on my Transnote, I will try the PCMCIA card with it and see what happens.

Yeah I have heard about it, but badly I can't find it in french... :(

The freeze also happens under Joli OS, so it seems to be hardware related.
I also tried to replace the pcmcia slot but it didn't solve anything, so it seems to be a mobo problem

Any suggestions ?

I know the Transnote is a rare device, but does anybody else has the same problem and/or an idea or a solution please? :(

On my 760 there is an app to set interrupts and memory range usage for the cardbus... maybe there is some conflict?

have you tried disabling all other hardware? like com, parallel, infrared... maybe there is some kind of conflict in resources going on?

Also, do you have the TI PCI1520 CardBus driver installed (Win 2000 here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... PJN99.html ) or the "Generic CardBus Controller"

that came from googling "transnote cardbus lockup"

Also, i know the 760 has (had, fixed in latest kernel) an issue with the TI1130 CardBus controller in Linux, PCMCIA would work fine, but there were interrupt issues with CardBus cards.. I can't find any info of the X20/Transnote having similar issues. But it really does sound like an interrupt issue in general.

just guessing at general stuff here :P

Thanks for the answer.
I tried the TI driver but it's doing the same thing, sadly...
However I noticed that the computer makes a very small and continuous beep while the USB card is plugged, and the end of the beep is heared just after I unplug the card.
Do you know how your app to set memory range is called?

It's called "Thinkpad Features"...

I don't think there's such an option on my Transnote, I know there is a similar software but I think that I can't set the memory ranges for the PCMCIA slot...
