Hello. I was installing a new 40 gig samsung hard dirve into my thinkpad 600 . I was installing Win 2000 professional. The laptop Identified the drive as a 38 gig drive so that was good. There ws previosulya 20 ig in there. Everything seemed to be going well with the installation. I came to the part where it asked me to format the drive so I did NTFS. That took a while so when I was done it start installling some more system files. When that was finished it gave the old system wil reboot in 15 seconds or press enter. I let the system reboot itsself and when it started, I got the mesage " A disk read error has occured. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart." I did 2 more fresh installs and that did nothing. Same error. I then installed that same drive into my T -21 and the drive booted into win 2000 from that laptop aand was working so I know its not the drive its self. I'ts also a brand new drive. Does anybody have fix or solution to this message. Im thinking because Im not up with the current bios maybe that may have somehting to do with it ?? Do I need to have an operating system running to flash the bios. I can install the old drive if so and it wil booot right up if needed . I can also get the bios update file off on of my other computers ....also I do not have access to a floppy, will I need the floppy to flash it or can I do this from a CD rom drive or USB pen dirve ? I know some of these are dumb questions but I just need all the help I can get when it comes to flashing the bios as I dont want to ruine the system. Thanks for all the help !
