is it a Ultrabay II or Ultrabay 2000 ?

is it a Ultrabay II or Ultrabay 2000 ?

#1 Post by ieee488 » Thu May 05, 2011 9:52 pm

I was sent a 250MB Zip drive a few years back with an used TP600E I purchased on eBay.

From looking at the ThinkWiki, I have narrowed it down to it either being an Ultrabay II or an Ultraybay 2000.
How do I know which one I have?

I would guess an Ultrabay 2000, because I never saw a 250MB zip drive in the UltraBay II form factor, and so I expect they are rare or that the thinkwiki.org records are wrong.

But you can tell the difference fairly easily. Ultrabay II devices are almost a complete rectangular box. And they are considerably too tall to fit in a slot in your 600E. The Ultrabay 2000 are about the same height as the UltraSlimBay devices: they look like they would fit into your machine even if they don't. And like the UltraSlimBay devices, they have a part of their front bezel/facepiece notched out so that their front face does not form a complete rectangle.

Ah ha ha. I did try taking out my UltraSlimBay CD drive and putting the Ultrabay 2000.

Right, but I was Googling on 00N7953

Now the pkiff has described the Ultrabay II, I am now certain I have the Ultrabay 2000.

Perhaps, I am not explaining myself clearly.
I have the product so I know what it looks like.

I don't have a picture of the Ultrabay II item.

I wasn't completely sure that I have an Ultrabay 2000 since I did not know how different the two different items really were.

Was one just slightly "shorter" or slightly "narrower" or slightly "wider"?
A photo can't tell me that.

When pkiff comfirmed that the Ultrabay II and the Ultrabay 2000 were not very close in dimensions and "look", especially given my experience trying to install the Ultrabay 2000 Zip drive in my TP600E that is what convinced me.
