WinFLP on TP600E

#1 Post by hjanzen » Sat May 21, 2011 9:32 am

Hi,
I succeeded installing WinFLP XP incl.SP3 on my 600E laptop.
So far so good.
Except folowing nagging remark at every start-up:
New Hardware found: MwaveDSP.
Unable to load installer.

I have spend hours now to find a driver for this in IBM 600 driver Matrix and elsewere but in vain.

Your help in finding a solution for this problem is appreciated very much.

Hmm...been a long time since I've installed FLP on anything. But, I had the same missing driver at first. Could it be the modem? I don't remember for certain, but seems like installing the modem drive fixed it.

Problem is, the 600E driver matrix says in the 600E column: "Included with operating system" For WinXP Modem driver...

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... TLQ2L.html

But assuming you dont use the modem, you should be able to tick the box that says don't remind me again on the new hardware found dialog... OR, choose the driver... then select like a generic modem, it wont work, but you won't be hassled again... OR, find the unknown device in device manager and disable it.

Thanks Neil and Ozzymud!
Unfortunately the 3 suggestions do not work.
-'uninstall' is not possible in Device Manager
-select generic modum fails because of absence of list in WinFLP
-even ticking the 'do not remind me box' does not help; new hardware screen keeps coming at every new start..

Never mind, I can live with this little nuisance.

By the way, I feel that WinFLP on my 600E 500MHz is hardly faster than with the original XP, if any..

My compliments to ozzymud for your 701C reviews!

FLP is just a slimmed-down version of XP.
Major difference is: it doesn't have any of the XP-crud, has a smaller footprint and is better organized driver-wise.
I love it especially on T23 machines.

The 1st link is not for XP, the second is an update to the XP included mwave driver :(

And it's technically not an audio driver, at least not for normal sound output, the 600 has a CS4239/CS4610 Audio controller... this is for the voice portion of the data/fax/voice modem.

A driver package can probably be put together from a regular XP disk though, just find the right INF and associated drivers,.. I'll try to do this actually.

EDIT: here is the inf from XP, let me know if FLP accepts it for the driver popup, XP should have the files on the FLP CD, if not, grab em from a real xp cd...

scroll to "RAW Paste Data" near the bottom, copy/paste that into a file called "mwavmdm1.inf"
the actual "ThinkPad Modem Wave Device" inf, try that one too...

Looks like it was made for the 770D, which also has the MWave modem.

Lemme know what actual files it requests from you if it accepts it, with that info it would be EASY to package a complete driver.

EDIT 2: FLP lacks dial-up support, thus why the modem drive ain't there... along with the above INF, see this post and put these files into flp from XP... http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php? ... 49#p280849

@realblackstuff
Thanks for your help, but according ozzymud the files that you mention would not help me.
@ozzymud
Thanks for your extensive post.
Unfortunately the solutions that you suggest go beyond my abilities in this field...

To partly solve your problem, take the modem out. Who needs it anyway? :mrgreen:
