Hi,

there are three thinks i'd like to know (I've got a 600X -- 2645-4EG):

1)
I just bought a tv-out-module (10L1352) from ebay. Now the thing is to get a cable from the little jack on the module to whatever. Somewhere i read, that the jack on the module is "regular" s-video, just looks different. Can someone tell me how the 3 pins are used? Then I'll patch my own tv-out cable...

I don't want any solutions about this, i'd just like to tell you:
My battery normaly does it's job for about 5-7 minutes before collapsing. Some minutes ago somehow I managed to trick my WinXP: I don't know exactly how, but I kept it from going into hibernation. Now it runs for about 20 mins (as i write) with "0% remaining" and all LED's flashing... funny, isn't it?
And then I noticed this: On the battery 10.8V are shown. The MobileMeter reports me 11V and more in this moment (with 0% remaining and all LED's flashing). Do the Thinkpads transform the voltage from 10,8V upto 14V or so? It's all just a little confusing what I see while I'm writing this...

And "SpeedswitchXP" reports, that my CPU is running at 9-15MHz ?!? Can that be correct? (Of course only when idling. It gets up to it's regular 498MHz quickly)

What is the exact designation for the 600's ultrabay? I think it's "UltraSlimBay". But I also heard rumors about Ultrabay2000 beeing combatible etc. Can you help me out with that?
I'm asking because I'd like to buy a DVD or CD-RW for my TP600x...

To properly undrestand S-Video (Seperated Video) you need to be an old Commodore 64 user.

Note: These comments apply only to S-Video (Also known as "Super Video")

Please note: I do not know if the outupt jack is, in fact, S-Video, I don't have one. I do have S-video monitors, I just don't have the output module on my Thinkpad.

The three liens are Ground, Croma and Luma, Which is which, I don't know but I do know how to tell... Sync is on the LUMA pin. Ground is always the SLEEVE connection (The other two on a stereo style plug are called TIP and Ring, I think you can figure out which is which)

Using a standard color NTST monitor connect a cable to sleeve and tip, plug it in, if you get video, but no color... That's the LUMA. If not, try connecting it to the RING tab, if you now get video, but no color, that is LUMA The other one is croma... The croma pin may or may not give you color video.. It may also give you trash.

Why they use all those pins on the standard S-Video connector I haven't a clue, lots on "Not Connected"s

There the 3-pin plug leeds to a standart composite video plug, with only shield and one signal in the middle. (called 'chinch' in germany)

what do you think about that?

It appears then that it's not an S-Video plug, as I said, my comments were simply a description of S-Video

I have a DVD player (portable) that uses a 3-wire plug for video out, the 3rd wire (ring) is digital audio (S/Pdif type) I am not suggesting anything here

Some systems use the ring as a second ground (Shield)

Some leave it N/C (not connected)

But it appears it's a composit out.

Since my 600 has the "knock out' plug (Ok, so it's not a knock out but you know what I mean) not a jack, not having been supplied with a DVD player in the ultra slim bay,,,, I can't tell for sure what is what.

But the software is being changed, and that location looks wrong. Just go to the main site and click on ThinkPad Models on the left, pick any model with a bay of any kind, go to the bottom of that page and click UltraBay.

The site has a lot of good information.

I don't know if this helps, but the cables have an S-video connector AND two RCA connectors on the end. At least I THINK there were two RCA connectors, might just be one for video. IIRC there is an easy way to combine the Chroma and Luma signals to get composite video? The "dongle" type cable has a big enough end for some minor circuitry, but not much. I couldn't find anyting on e-bay except a group of five of the things for around $20 including shipping -- single cables were as much or more! But then I actually LOOKED at my 600E and discovered it didn't have the upgraded video card. Good thing I did that before buying! I just saw the cable referenced in the docs. Only factory DVD equipped models got the upgraded card.

Thanks, .. but a lot of the Docking station for 600 or 390 etc. is still in red and there isn't much info on the web about them

The 600 uses the UltraBase 600 which has NO bay. I think the UltraBase in there at the moment is an error. I've never heard of one.

The 600 series uses only UltraSlimBay devices... or other ones can sometimes/often be made to fit with modification or using covers from parted UltraSlimBay gizmos.
