Howdy All!
This forum should definitely help me as I undertake my System Board replacement of my TP600, it was great to find it. My original errors on boot up were 161, 191, 163...then 192 after setting the clock. Diagnostics says "Good luck with the SB" But I do have a CMOS battery coming after I melted my new CR2025 while soldering the leads to it...smelly.
Do I need any special tools to remove/replace the System Board? I have a grounding strap, and pray(!) my new SB comes in a static bag that I can work on, but otherwise is it just regular screws I will encounter? Or Torx bits and other annoying fastners?
I downloaded the IBM MM from their website, and am looking forward to both frustration and excitement.
Any clues you all could add would be appreciated.

Hmmmm
I hope you are right James, as I am sure as a Senior Member you have way more experience than I...I just read and interpreted the error messages. I don't believe the IBM manual did me the favor of stating the itty bitty CMOS battery can cause a host of error messages.
Yeah, I know, keep it simple, but the IBM tech I spoke to via their 1-800 number didn't share any clues either. He did offer to sell me a System Board for $400 though! And here I felt good about finding one on e-bay for $20. Oh well, live and learn I guess.
I suppose I should have happened upon this forum first, before thinking I could solve the problem myself...
