Disabling Modem in 600E

#1 Post by Howie » Tue Apr 05, 2005 9:55 am

As I noted previously, I've decided not to use the internal modem in my 600E (win2k) due to this annoying error.

Is there a way I can disable it in the BIOS? I can't seem to figure out how to prevent this message from coming up every time I boot up.

Thanks,
Howie

Don't know a way to disable it in the bios, but you can disable it in the O.S. Go to Device Manager...go down to where the modem is, right click and select "disable." Now reboot your computer and see if you get that error message. If you are getting a "copy write" message pop-up on start-up, this can be disabled by right clicking your Windows Start button and selecting "explore," then double clicking on the programs folder and then the start up folder. Within the start up folder you will see a short cut to IBM's copy write notice for their modems. Just deleting this will not harm anything.

Tried that already. Also removed the modem software from the startup and "run" entry in the registry.

That's why I wanted to try it in the BIOS

Howie,

You can turn it off (Disable) in the Configuration Utility.

I installed Win2k without the config utility. I'll have to get it and install it first.

Thanks

Well, I installed the utility and set the Modem properties to DISABLE.

When it boots, it still enables the modem, generates the error, and prompts me to Restart the modem.

Anyone have any other ideas?

What error are you getting? Is it the MWME001:Modem Internal Error or the Modem Region Select Error?

It was the MWME001 error. I re-installed Win2K and it no longer comes up.
