770x films problem (colour)

#1 Post by manfred » Mon Oct 03, 2011 4:14 pm

Hello. I have an old laptop:

IBM 770X

Pentium II 300MHz
~ 400mb Ram
Drive 10Gb
System: Windows 2000
Video Card: 8MB TridentCyber9397DVD.

I wanted to watch movie on it. FFDShow codecs installed BESTplayer + 1.0 and tried to play the movie in avi. The film plays properly (with no jams, the sound evenly), but the lack of color - a black and white. Sometimes there are glimpses - or red spots here and there a single color. Sometimes blurred image. Picture during normal operation, photographs, etc. is very fine:. Also Youtube videos but did not work smoothly, it had colors. I suspect that the fault of the software and ask for help, suggestions for any other codec or software.

For software on older machines I've used either VLC or the K-lite codec pack with Media Player Classic.

I think your 770X might be a bit slow for flash video on Youtube. You might consider upgrading the CPU to at least a 500mhz P3. Its relatively simple and cheap-- I owned a 770X at one time and it was a worthwhile $10 investment. It's possible to go to higher speeds as well.
