Thinkpad Edge with sticking tab key

Hello there,
First post to these forums, so hi.
I'm hoping someone can give me some advice.
I've had a Thinkpad Edge for the last couple of years, and recently it seems to have developed a sticking tab key.
I rarely use tab on this machine, so I doubt it's down to wear and tear. However I've popped the top of the key off and given everything a good clean and a blast with an air duster, and it still seems to be manifesting the same problems.
The only solution I currently have is to take the top of the key off whenever this starts happening, as that seems to cure it, but it's not a very satisfactory (or indeed pretty) solution. Plus I worry I'll wear out the fixings if I keep messing with the keys.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be very welcome.
Many thanks,
Mark
