Thinkpad Edge E530 HDD+mSATA SSD 16GB

Hi,

I'd like to by new Thinkpad Edge E530. There is a version with HDD+mSATA SSD 16GB. Is is worth to pay extra money for it? Is there any significat speed up?

You're usually better offer doing it yourself. It's not that hard and generally less expensive to do it yourself.

How much extra? In the US I believe they are charging $40 for this option. The mSATA SSD will be used as a cache drive for frequently accessed files on the mechanical disk. Reports I've heard are that this does a very nice job speeding up commonly accessed programs and is a nice in between solution if you don't want to spend the money for an SSD that is large enough to boot the OS, install essential programs on, etc.

Of course it is better than without - but buying a separate mSATA SSD is much more better! This one is a good one: Crucial CT128M4SSD3 128GB.
So better leave the cache-SSD out, buy a normal mSATA SSD, install it to the mSATA slot and manually install Win7...

I already did that with 64GB mSATA and it's awesome. Anyway thanks for reply.
